The Inspirations Behind Dark Days

Mi Amor esta Muerto

I’ve always been able to find inspiration from anything. I had a couple of story ideas about what I wanted for Valentine’s Day. One idea comprised a first-date conversation, with the entire story focused on that one date. However, I scrapped the idea because I didn’t believe it would be interesting enough. Plus, it would’ve been dialogue heavy, and I didn’t want it to go that way. So, I went back to the drawing board.

One late night, as I was scrolling through one of the streaming services, I came across a horror movie centering on the Queen Mary ghost ship. The movie was awful; however, an idea popped into my head. Create a story that started on a ghost ship. However, the concept of it differed greatly from the results.

Originally, I was going to have the male character unable to leave the ship because he was tethered to the ship. However, I quickly changed that when I thought about how a sane person would think something was wrong if the person you’re trying to date couldn’t leave a certain place. It would’ve been more questions than answers. So, the current story was the ultimate idea.

Girl Dad!

They say a dad is a daughter’s first protector, and me being

a daddy’s girl, I wanted to play on that. I wanted the character of Mario to

always be dead but to always protect his daughter through his death.

Good Luck, Green!

I’ll admit, this story was the hardest for me to write. I thought to myself, “Why the hell did I choose St. Patrick’s Day?” I didn’t really have many stories with siblings at the forefront, and I knew I wanted to write another story with siblings being the main characters. A leprechaun would definitely need to be central to the story, because why not? But I didn’t want it to be the main focus. More of a side character. However, the wishes part was a last-minute decision. I was originally going to do a murderous leprechaun on the run but couldn’t think of a good motivation for him to be angry. And that’s when I thought about the wishes part and how they can sometimes come with consequences. It was perfect.
